It's amazing to see how many campsites offer appallingly bad toilet facilities. You would think that campsite owners would have invested some of their money in improving these facilities. Sadly, this rarely seems to have been the case.
This is a real shame, particularly given that many people enjoy camping as something of a family pursuit. Some of us have been trying to get facilities improved here in the UK. We make a particular effort to complain when things simply aren't right.
How successful have we been? In some cases, campsite owners were not previously aware that people were unhappy with the standard of facilities provided. As a result of our complaints, they have made almost immediate improvements. This has been very pleasing to see.
Unfortunately, some campsite owners are less willing to embrace change in this area. They've made it clear that they don't see this as being a priority. When faced with campsite managers who take this view, it's often best to look to pitch your tent elsewhere.
It is also usually worth informing other camping enthusiasts about the problems that you have witnessed. By doing so, you can help to ensure that other people don't face the same issues.
It may also be worth investing in your own camping toilet. You may not previously have seen these, but there are a number of UK retailers selling fully portable options. Unlike older models, many of these are extremely compact and also avoid the use of chemicals.
This means they can be easily transported, ensuring that you no longer have to worry about the standard of facilities provided at individual sites. This can only be good news for consumers.
When you find poor quality facilities, don't be afraid to complain. It's only by making your views known that you can help to bring about improvements.
