Here is the scenario; you are on a picture perfect course, when at the putting green you have somehow managed a double bogey. Meanwhile your good friend who you have beaten in almost everything else pulls a two under par.

Every golfer at one time or another has hit the proverbial brick wall, yet there are techniques that can help your game and your handicap.

Try visualization. If you ask any golf champion how they approach the game of golf, they will tell you that it is ninety percent visual and ten percent physical. Visualization allows the golfer to use mental images to create a scenario within the game. This is not just a meditation. This powerful technique lets the golfer visualize the action he/she intends to make, while visualizing the response to the other player’s tactics.

Use visualization for all aspects of the game but it is especially beneficial for developing a pre-shot routine. Before you make a shot first, visualize the type of shot, the distance, and the type of club you will use. Also, think about the angle, the gradation of the ground, and even the stance you will use.

Visualizing your golf shot is the mental game. When you are able to incorporate the mental with the physical, your golf game will be successful.

Now that we have touched on the mental aspects, let us look at physical conditioning. Have you ever noticed that some fit golfers cannot hit the ball long distance while some overweight golfers can? It comes down to one word, flexibility. Golf’s version of fitness is different from other sports. The most important aspect is not how strong but how flexible you can be. To increase your golf prowess, try adding some flexibility exercises to your golf routine. First, stretching will loosen those very important muscles for the golf swing, the hip flexors.

Think of it like this, the golf swing consists of the back and downswing, the ball strike and the follow through. In order to build enough momentum to increase club speed, the hip and core muscles have to be working optimally. Incorporating whole body stretches not only loosen but also strengthens these muscles as well quad, hamstring and calf muscles. In addition, you will find not only flexibility in your swing but an increase of balance.

Becoming a golfer is possible. By adding these little tips to your routine, you will improve your mind, body and your golf game.
