Everyone experiences the what to buy blues come a birthday or Christmas when we ask ourselves what the person we are buying for will like. How many sweaters can a person wear in a season? Of course, guessing their size could turn out to be a catastrophe as well.

No one wants to get the wrong size for someone, possibly insulting them, by getting them a large when they really wear a medium!

This is where food can make a great option. Everyone eats, and most of us like it! One size fits most.

I am not talking about fruitcake either. There are many options out there from tins of caramel coated popcorn to baked goods. Just do an internet search and it will turn up an endless amount of options. Food gifts have come a long way from the boxes of dried meat and cheeses. Of course, these still remain options.

You don't have to spend a small fortune either. You can turn that $80 box of brownies into a special gift by digging out your recipe cards and going to work in the kitchen. Everyone will love getting your grandma's family recipe all wrapped up in a hat box for a beautiful display.

Consider using a sugar substitue for that diabetic in your life.

Chocolate covered strawberries are another delicious treat that takes minimum work in the kitchen. Picking up some fresh strawberries from your local farmer's market can ensure a much fresher snack then some company would produce.

For a variety, use other toppings such as coconut, nuts or crushed Oreo's to roll the chocolate in before hardening. Arrange them in a platter, wrap with plastic wrap and tie it all with a bow to make it look like you bought it from a specialty store.

You could even make your own gift baskets. Go to a discount store and browse the aisles for everything you need. Coffee mugs, a bag of fresh ground coffee and a jar of pancake mix that you bagged with all the dry ingredients needed, plus the recipe to make the pancakes. Bundle this all together in a basket and you have breakfast in bed for the anniversary couple.

There are endless ideas to make food a special and thoughtful gift. All it takes is an appitite to create something special. The people in your life will love that you took so much time and thought just for them. So why not?
