Technology has infiltrated its way into every aspect of our daily lives, kids as young as 3 years old have computers and smartphones hole up inside of almost every pocket. Sometimes, it's good to unplug and get back to nature.

A camping trip can provide your family a great opportunity to connect without wi-fi! Here are a few handy little snippets for creating a great bonfire bonanza the whole family will enjoy.

Gear and Supplies

Prepare ahead of time so you don't stress, or cause anyone else's pulse to rise, when it's going time! Families with small children need only a basic, one room tent for sleeping accommodations, while teens will appreciate the privacy of their own tent. Gather enough sleeping bags for everyone, and go ahead and sneak some Hershey bars, graham crackers and marshmallows into your duffel bag. Get your cooking gear together, along with any food you are going to take; don't forget utensils, plates and plenty of drinks. Hot dogs and chicken tenderloins make fantastically fun dinners that cook beautifully over an open campfire.

Location

Prior to heading out, get input from your children on where you want to go. Now is the time to use that internet connection to find a cozy spot that you can all agree on. There are primitive camping areas far removed from the city, or places a little closer to home. Let the little ones decide if they want to be closer to swimming, like at a lake or river, or out in the middle of nowhere.

Make Memories

Schedule a few surprises for the family that you can do together during your trip - horseback riding, fishing and nature walks are all excellent ways to have quiet, conversation time with the ones you love. If you can, bring a camera and sneak a few snapshots each day of your trip. Don't force posed shots, though - you will have much more fun in stealth paparazzi mode, and you're family will only remember the event, not the fact that no one wanted to sit still for mom's prized picture!

Camping is one of the best ways to get back to nature and nurture your family's together time - without setting up a calendar reminder, or installing an app that tells you when it's dinner time. You will look like a hero to your kids when they are grown and can really reflect upon, and appreciate, the childhood memories you've made together.
